About Your Instructor:

February Instructor:

Nicoline Valkenberg is a Yoga teacher and Life Coach. She recently relocated to Portsmouth from the Boston area, where she has been teaching yoga for the last 17 years. Her mindful and creative Vinyasa Flow classes include dynamic breath-initiated movement, as well as longer exploration in individual postures. She incorporates anatomy and alignment awareness to help students feel their bodies more clearly and deepen their internal focus as well as encouraging observation of the mental and emotional layers of our experience. She views the practice of yoga as a means by which to tune to our essence/spirit/presence and thereby find healing, relief, insight and compassion from which to direct our actions in the outer world. "Join me in exploring movement as an opportunity to practice mindfulness in action. Connect to your innate wellness that arises out of embodied presence". - Nicoline

March Instructor:

Valerie Griffiths is a Vinyasa yoga instructor at Newport Power Yoga and owner of The Breathing Barn yoga studio in Portsmouth, RI where she also holds classes, workshops, and events. Valerie is also a co-facilitater with the Awake Minds yoga and meditation retreats, which have been held in Costa Rica, Hawaii, and Rhode Island with Meghan Leighton and Jess Gumkowski. A yoga enthusiast for twenty years, Valerie completed over five hundred training hours through Live Love Teach in 2014 and has been teaching ever since. She is certified to lead Intro to Gongs for meditation and healing and guides Yoga Nidra practices and meditation. She leads individuals and groups in matching their breath to movement and developing consciousness. Valerie is a believer in showing up for each session with no expectation, meeting and welcoming yourself exactly as you are in that moment. Her mantra is, “Each one of us is so much more than our thoughts,” a saying that guides her practice. She believes that in stillness and quiet, we find our true selves. We are here to learn the beauty and love within each of us and share it with the collective. Valerie is an enthusiastic vegan who loves bold flavors, and she is motivated by compassion and kindness. Valerie is passionate about helping others bridge the gap between a world of space and time where we use our senses to navigate, and the world of higher consciousness which is seated in the depth of our soul.
