Edible? Medicinal? Our Plants Have a Story to Tell
Are you intrigued by the nature around us and wonder if native plants have medicinal qualities or even if they are safe to eat?
It’s your chance to take a deep dive into into the plant world at Mount Hope Farm with Maggie Hatzpanian of Maggie’s Healing Path as she leads tours of our property this summer. As you explore the trails and fields, Maggie will give you clues on how to identify plants, and will discuss their habitats and the companion plants they surround themselves with.
You’ll learn the uses and applications of medicinal plants and leave with the knowledge of plants that make great teas, tinctures or even oil infusions. Plus, for the brave, you can join Maggie in snacking some edible plants she’ll ID on your walk … and you’ll hear about Maggie’s favorite recipes using the types of plants you’ll encounter.
Our two-hour walks with Maggie start with a short intro conversation and many stops along the way to discuss the plants. While the walk is not strenuous, you will be on your feet and moving most of the time so plan on comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. And, because a bit of light rain won’t slow Maggie down, when the weather threatens a rain jacket, boots, etc., are a good idea. (Walks are canceled in heavy rain/winds/lightning.)
