Henry Mackintosh Room

Queen Bed, First Floor

This lovely, ground-floor room offers an antique, queen-size bed and a corner location with sunny windows overlooking our animal pasture, and a distant glimpse of Mount Hope Bay. Its private, keyed bath is directly across the hall.

What makes this room truly special is its hand-painted mural depicting Bristol’s waterfront. It was painted in 2000 when Mount Hope Farm was featured in the Newport Showhouse Guild event. Despite some artistic license, many of the Town’s buildings can still be identified. Even the Mackintosh Room’s closet is incorporated into the mural!

The Mackintosh Room is named for Colonel Henry Mackintosh, who purchased the Farm from Nathaniel Byfield and, in 1744, subdivided the property. Half of the land went to Thomas Palmer and the remaining parcel to the Colonel’s daughter, Elizabeth Mackintosh. Elizabeth married Isaac Royall, who built the Governor Bradford House in 1745.
